WESTON, Mass. - The Norwich University women's basketball team fell on the road on Saturday afternoon, as the Regis College Pride took down the Cadets by a 63-60 final score in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
A closely contested matchup that featured 10 lead changes and four ties, the Cadets trailed by just a single point with barely four minutes remaining after a Regis three-pointer made it 59-58. The defensive units for both sides stepped up and held their opponent scoreless for over three minutes until Regis broke the dry spell with 42 seconds remaining via a pair of successful free throws that made it 61-58. Norwich had a chance to tie the game up late but simply couldn't find the buckets they needed as Regis held on for the 63-60 victory.
Riley Bennett (Hopkinton, N.H.) led the Cadets with a career-high 18 points on 7-10 shooting from the field, while Mary Casamassa (Wexford, Pa.) put up a 14 point, 10 rebound double-double along with five assists and three steals. Casamassa and Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) played all 40 minutes, with Oliver collecting 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals.
The loss drops Norwich down to 6-8 overall and 1-2 within the GNAC. They'll be back in action Tuesday afternoon at Bates College for a 5:30 PM non-conference matchup.
