NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's basketball team hosted the Suffolk University Rams on Thursday night, falling to their Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe by a 59-49 final score.
The Cadets had a tale of two quarters in the first half, starting with a first quarter that saw them build a four-point lead while holding Suffolk in single digits. Norwich's offense went cold in the second quarter, however, as the team went 2-13 from the field on their way to a 27-18 halftime deficit. The Cadets rallied to outscore the Rams 15-11 in the third quarter, but Suffolk kept their composure and sealed the victory with a modest 8-0 run over three minutes in the final parts of the fourth to seal up the 59-49 victory.
Freshman Mary Casamassa (Wexford, Pa.) put up another double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Vanessa Fleury (Lebanon, N.H.) put up a team-high 15 points on 6-13 shooting, Riley Bennett (Hopkinton, N.H.) had 11 points, and Naomi Rinaldo (Middlefield, Conn.) had nine rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals.
With the loss, Norwich falls to 6-10 overall on the year and 1-3 within the conference. They'll host the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday at 1:00 PM for another GNAC showdown.
