NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Norwich University women's basketball team fell on the road on Saturday afternoon, as the Falcons of Albertus Magnus ran away with a 79-59 victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
The game was tight through the first quarter, as AMC held a slim 17-16 advantage after the first ten minutes of play. The Falcons really turned on the offensive pressure in the second quarter though, shooting 64.3% from the field in the quarter and outscoring Norwich 27-12 on their way to a 44-28 halftime lead. It was much of the same in the second half, as Norwich never closed the deficit and fell by the 79-59 final score.
Mary Casamassa (Wexford, Pa.) had a big day for the Cadets, scoring 15 points in the first half on her way to 21 points on the day, the second highest mark in her career. She also added in six rebounds, two assists, and a block and steal to go with it, shooting 7-11 from the field to be the only Cadet to reach double-digit points.
Norwich falls to 7-13 overall and 2-6 within the conference with their third loss in a row. They'll try to right the ship on Tuesday evening when they host Colby-Sawyer for another conference matchup at 7:00 PM in Andrews Hall Gymnasium.
