NEWTON, Mass. - The Norwich University women's basketball team picked up their third Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Lasers of Lasell College by a 44-38 final score.
After a Lasell buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the third quarter, Norwich held a slim 32-31 advantage heading into the final stanza. The Norwich defense took over from there, holding the Lasers to a 3-16 mark from the field in the quarter and a 1-7 mark from three, as Lasell scored just seven fourth-quarter points and Norwich sealed up the 44-38 victory.
Mary Casamassa (Wexford, Pa.) led the way with her fifth double-double of the season, putting up 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Naomi Rinaldo (Middlefield, Conn.) had eight rebounds, six of which were offensive, to go with four points and Kailynne Frederick (Adams, Mass.) mathced her with eight rebounds and four points of her own. Norwich outrebounded the Lasers 55-43 and outscored them in the paint by a 20-10 margin.
With the win, Norwich raises their overall record to 8-14 and their conference record to 3-7.
