NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's basketball fell to Rivier University on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders prevailed by a 64-53 final score in the season finale for both teams.
Before the game, Norwich took time to recognize the team's four seniors in Jenna Alexander (Castleton, Vt.), Vanessa Fleury (Lebanon, N.H.), Naomi Rinaldo (Middlefield, Conn.), and Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio).
The game started off in picture-perfect fashion for Norwich, as seniors Rinaldo, Oliver, and Fleury opened the game with a layup each to open a 6-0 Norwich lead. Rivier responded though and ended up outscoring Norwich 28-16 in the first half on their way to a 28-22 halftime lead. Kaylee Kacavas led the way for Rivier in the second half, scoring 19 of her 30 total points in the half to lead Rivier to a 64-53 victory.
Kailynne Frederick (Adams, Mass.) led the way with her second double-double of the season via a team-high 13 points on 6-9 shooting and ten rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. Vanessa Fleury had 12 points and five boards, and Emily Oliver filled the stat sheet with ten points, eight rebounds, five assists, and a pair of blocks.
Kacavas had 30 points on 7-16 shooting from the floor and a 14-15 performance from the free throw line, along with six rebounds and four assists. Megan Hamel pulled down a whopping 20 rebounds and Cydney Lessard had 14 points.
The loss wraps up Norwich's season, as they'll finish with an 8-16 overall record and a 3-9 mark within the conference.
