NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Next Friday, Oct. 28 will be a can't miss date for all Norwich hockey fans as the 2011 national champion Norwich women's ice hockey team will raise its national championship banner before the start of the Cadets' season opener against Elmira College at 7 p.m.
In addition to the banner ceremony commemorating the Cadets' run to winning the national championship in just their fourth season as a varsity program, the Norwich Blue Line Club will also be holding a pre-game cookout for all fans.
The event will run from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and is free for anyone to attend, but donations are gladly accepted. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served along with sides and soda. The cookout will take place in the Kreitzberg Arena parking lot near the main entrance to the arena.
The 2nd annual East/West Hockey Classic continues to grow as one of the premier women's Division III hockey tournaments as four of the nation's top 10 teams will be in action at Kreitzberg Arena on Oct. 28 and 29. The star-studded field includes the top two ranked teams in Norwich and R.I.T., as well as No. 8 Manhattanville and No. 10 Elmira.
The tournament will once again feature four pre-determined matchups. R.I.T. and Manhattanville kick things off on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by Norwich hosting Elmira at 7 p.m. Saturday's action will feature Elmira taking on Manhattanville at 3 p.m., followed by the highly anticipated national championship rematch at 6 p.m. between R.I.T. and Norwich.
Tickets for each day of the Classic are $5 for adults and $2 for youth. Each day's ticket includes admission to both games that day.

Legendary "Voice of the Cadets" George Commo will have the call for both contests with Tanner Acebo on color commentary.
The Norwich women's hockey team is hoping to break its home attendance record of 569 set last season during the Cadets Skate for the Cure game against St. Michael's on Jan. 22. Come on out and support the team as it begins its title defense.
