NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich women's ice hockey team will begin its 2011 National Championship title defense on Saturday, March 10 when it hosts Amherst in an NCAA Quarterfinal matchup at 3 p.m. at Kreitzberg Arena.
Norwich (25-2-1) won its third ECAC East Tournament title with a 6-3 win over arch-rival Manhattanville on Sunday and will now make its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance in just the program's fifth year of existence.
Tickets for Saturday's game will only be available at the Kreitzberg Arena and Doyle Hall box offices on game day. Prices will be $6 for adults and $4 students.
The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the 2012 NCAA Division III Frozen Four to be held at a site to be determined.
Amherst and Norwich have combined to win the last three national championships. The two schools met in the 2010 title game at Gustavus Adolphus, which Amherst won 7-2. The Lord Jeffs also won the only meeting between the two schools this year, 2-0 at Orr Rink on Jan. 24.
Norwich hasn't lost since that game and the Cadets will carry an 11-game winning streak into Saturday's showdown.
