Women’s Hockey: Wilks reaches 100 career points as No. 2 Norwich dominates Plymouth State 14-0

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Saturday was a memorable day for senior defenseman Amanda Wilks as the Winnipeg, Manitoba native scored two goals and added two assists, on her way to notching her 100th career point and leading the Norwich women's ice hockey team to a 14-0 win over Plymouth State.

Wilks becomes just the fourth player in program history to reach the 100-point milestone and the first defenseman to do so. Earlier this season, senior captain Melissa Rundlett also joined the elite club, which includes Julie Fortier (Saint-Malachie, Quebec) and Sophie Leclerc.

Freshman forward Tyne Gove (Berwick, Ontario) opened the scoring 4:29 into the game and gave NU the only lead it would need. Jillayne DeBus (Howell, Mich.) and Wilks picked up assists on the goal.

Fortier and Renee Lortie (Cornwall, Ontario) each scored goals to give Norwich a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Norwich (18-2-1, 15-0-1 ECAC East) added four more goals in the second period with two coming from Wilks. Her second goal came while shorthanded and was also her 100th career point. Fortier and Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) picked up assists on the goal. Anderson tallied a game-high five assists to establish a new personal best for points in a game.

Fortier notched a natural hat trick to start the third period to bring her nation-leading season total up to 24, as well as stretch the Cadets' lead to 10-0. Rundlett (Saco, Maine), Jackie Perez (San Gabriel, Calif.), Meghan Papagno (Wakefield, Mass.) and DeBus each scored in the third period to cap the scoring.

Sophomore Joanie Plamondon (Pont-Rogue, Quebec) improved to 7-1-1 while making one save in 20 minutes to pick up the win for the Cadets. Caroline Barth (Friedens, Pa.) made four saves over the remaining 40 minutes to preserve the team shutout.

Ali Ponte stopped 39 shots for Plymouth State to fall to 1-11-1 on the season.

Norwich outshot the Panthers 53-5 and was 4-for-9 on the power play, while PSU was 0-for-3. Saturday's win marked the second time this season the Cadets beat Plymouth State 14-0. They won by the same score on Nov. 11 at Kreitzberg Arena.

NU returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8 with a crucial non-conference showdown at Plattsburgh State. Face off is set for 7 p.m. at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
