Adrieana Rossini - Women's Hockey

BOSTON – Junior forward Adrieana Rossini (Malden, Mass.) scored two goals and tallied an assist to lead the No. 3-nationally ranked Norwich University women's ice hockey team to a 5-3 victory over UMass Boston on Friday night in its 2017-18 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) opener.

Rossini potted two power play goals, including the eventual game-winning goal in the third period to lead the Cadets (2-0-1, 1-0-0 NEHC) to the victory in a rematch of the 2016 NEHC Championship game.

Sophomore Alyssa Hulst (Scarborough, Maine) tallied a goal and an assist, while freshman Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H.) scored her first collegiate goal to help lead the Cadets' offense in the victory.

UMass Boston took a 1-0 lead after the first period, but Norwich equalized in the second period with Hulst scoring on a power play off assists from Rossini and Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.).

Norwich scored two more power play goals just 24 seconds apart early in the third period by Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) and Rossini to take a 3-1 lead.

UMass Boston came right back scoring just 18 seconds after Rossini's goal to cut the lead back down to 3-2.

Rossini scored again on the power play at the 11:44 mark off an assist from Schwenzfeier to make it 4-2 Cadets. UMass Boston answered again at the 16:45 mark with Jane Morrissette scoring a short-handed goal to make it 4-3.

However, Norwich got an empty netter from Benoit to seal the victory with 17 seconds for her first collegiate goal.

King made 15 saves for Norwich to improve to 2-0-1. Myette was brilliant for UMass Boston, registering 51 saves to keep the Beacons in the game.

Norwich travels to Salve Regina tomorrow for another NEHC contest starting at 2 p.m.
