PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Norwich University women's ice hockey team scored twice in the final three minutes to break a 2-2 tie and down Plymouth State 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.
Junior forward Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) stayed scorching hot to start the season, scoring twice again, including the game-winning goal at the end 16:58 mark of the third period to lead the Cadets to the victory.
Senior alternate captain Adrieana Rossini (Malden, Mass.) added another power play goal at the 17:44 mark with assists from Conway and Jessica Piracini (Arlington, Mass.) for the insurance tally to push the lead to 4-2.
Plymouth State (1-3-0, 1-1-0 NEHC) took a 1-0 lead at the 5:13 mark of the first period with a power play goal by Olivia MacMillan off an assist from Siri Brett.
Norwich (2-1-0, 2-0-0 NEHC) responded at the 9:32 mark of the first period with Maddi Blauth (Pennington, N.J.) scoring her second goal of the season on the power play off assists from Rossini and Piracini.
The Cadets took their first lead of the game at the 3:24 mark of the second period with Conway scoring her fifth goal of the year on the power play off an assist from Rossini.
Plymouth State responded with 34 seconds left in the second period with Alexis Fagan scoring an unassisted goal to the knot score at 2-2.
Freshman goalie Alexa Berg (West Fargo, N.D.) earned her first collegiate win after making 16 saves for the Cadets in goal. Emelie Lindqvist made 33 saves for the Panthers in the loss.
Norwich will travel to No. 2 Plattsburgh State on Wednesday to close its four-game road trip to open the season. The Cadets and Cardinals will drop the puck at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night in Plattsburgh.
