NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Junior forward Amanda Conway (Metheun, Mass.) tied Julie Fortier '12 for the Norwich University women's ice hockey single-game points record with four goals and two assists for six points to lead the Cadets to a dominant 10-2 victory over Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena.
Conway also tied the single-game scoring record with her four goals, while establishing a new single-game career-high for herself. She has tallied five career hat tricks at Norwich now and has 71 goals and in 68 career games played.
Norwich (12-3-0, 10-0-0 NEHC) stayed perfect on the season in league play and extended its conference winning streak to 28 straight games.
Junior Sophie McGovern (Hermantown, Minn.) had a goal and three assists, while senior defensemen Carly Menges (Novelty, Ohio) and Robyn Foley (Goulds, Newfoundland and Labrador) each had three-point games.
Norwich scored early and often in the game and set the tone just 29 seconds into the game with Conway scoring her 14th goal of the season off assists from McGovern and Menges. McGovern flung a pass up to Conway to spring her on a breakaway and then she took care of the rest slipping the puck through Plymouth State starting goaltender Gabbie Igo's five-hole to make it 1-0 Cadets.
Junior Kelley Madden (Novelty, Ohio) stayed hot with her third goal in the last two games, tipping a shot from the point by Foley past Igo to make it 2-0 Norwich.
Madden had a hand in the Cadets' third goal as well with a hard fore check into the zone to steal a puck away from a Plymouth State defender and feed Maddi Blauth (Pennington, N.J.) in the slot for what proved to be the game-winning goal. The goal chased Igo from the net and prompted Plymouth State to call its timeout.
McGovern made it 4-0 at the 14:06 mark of the first period with a goal off an assist from Conway. Plymouth State (2-9-3, 2-4-3 NEHC) cut into the lead at the 15:39 mark of the first period with Brooke Maggy ripping a wrist shot off the inside of the right goal post from the bottom of the right faceoff circle after she skated in from the wing to cut it to 4-1 briefly.
Conway regained the four-goal lead at the 17:29 mark of the first period with her second of the day off assists from Labbe and McGovern.
Norwich started off the second period strong with Brynn Wopperer (Amherst, N.Y.) tallying her fourth goal of the season to stretch the lead to 6-1. Maggie Conroy (Batavia, Ill.) and Foley had assists on the goal.
Conway completed the hat trick at the 13:56 mark of the second period off assists from McGovern and Menges. McGovern had her initial shot blocked but Conway was able to put home the rebound for her 16th of the season.
Plymouth State scored its second goal of the day with Julie Nagle scoring unassisted at the 17:16 mark of the second period for her second goal of the year.
Conway, Foley and Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H.) added third period goals to cap the scoring.
Freshman goalie Alexa Berg (West Fargo, N.D.) made 18 saves in her first start since Dec. 1 in a 12-0 win over Johnson & Wales. She improved to 4-1-0 on the season.
Norwich travels to Endicott College on Monday for a non-conference matchup with the Gulls. The Cadets will be making their first trip to the Raymond J. Bourque Arena in Beverly, Mass.
