Women's Hockey: Norwich drops Southern Maine, 6-1

GORHAM, Maine - The Norwich University women's ice hockey team picked up a 6-1 victory over Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

Norwich (15-4-1, 12-0-1 NEHC) clinched the No. 1 seed for the NEHC Tournament and will have home ice throughout the duration of the tournament. 

Senior Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) had a goal and an assist to become the 10th player in NU women's hockey history to reach the 100-career-point-milestone and the third this season to reach it.

Junior Kelley Madden (Novelty, Ohio) also had a goal and an assist, while Sophie McGovern (Hermantown, Minn.), Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H.) and Kirsten Watts (Chugiak, Alaska) each recorded two assists.

Norwich had 12 different players get on the scoresheet in the victory. KC Herne (Akwesasne, N.Y.), Blossom Truel (Stratford, Wis.), Maddi Blauth (Pennington, N.J.) and Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) each scored goals. 

Herne and Truel each scored 36 seconds apart in the first period to put the Cadets out front for good. Madden capped the first period scoring with 12 seconds left in the first period with her fourth goal of the year. Labbe and Watts picked up the assists with Labbe getting her 100th point in the process.

Blauth scored the lone goal in the second period to increase the lead to 4-1.

Conway scored her 23rd goal of the season at the 8:57 mark of the third period and then 15 seconds later Labbe finished off the scoring for the game

Emily Lambert (Riverview, Mich.) made nine saves for the Cadets to improve to 9-3-1 on the season.

Norwich will travel to Suffolk University on Saturday, Feb. 2 for another NEHC matchup.
