Women’s Hockey: Conway, Winstanley tabbed to NEHC weekly honors

Amanda Conway and Kate Winstanley women's hockey NEHC weekly honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Junior forward Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) and freshman goalie Kate Winstanley (Landsale, Pa.) of the Norwich University women's ice hockey team earned New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) weekly honors on Monday afternoon.

Conway was named the NEHC Player of the Week for the fifth time this season and Winstanley earned her first recognition from the league in her career.

Conway scored three goals and had an assist to lead Norwich to wins over UMass Boston and Johnson & Wales. She had a goal and an assist in Friday's 4-1 win over UMass Boston and then she added the first two goals, including the game-winning goal in a 4-0 win over Johnson & Wales after being tied 0-0 through two periods.

Winstanley stopped all 16 shots she faced to earn her second career shutout in a 4-0 win over Johnson & Wales on Saturday. She made 11 saves through two periods to keep Norwich tied with JWU before the Cadets finally got on the board in the third period. Winstanley is 3-0-0 with a 0.33 goals against average and a .968 save percentage.

The pair helped Norwich clinch its sixth undefeated league regular season in the last nine seasons. The Cadets are ninth in the USCHO.com national rankings and fifth in the latest d3hockey.com poll.

Norwich earned the No. 1 seed for the NEHC Tournament for the ninth straight year and will host No. 8 seed Salem State on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Kreitzberg Arena in the NEHC Quarterfinals.
