INDIANAPOLIS – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team will travel to Williams College on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in a NCAA Division III Tournament First Round matchup at Lansing Chapman Rink.
Norwich (21-5-2) won its ninth New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Tournament title with a 6-0 victory over Castleton to secure an automatic bid for the third straight year into the 10-team NCAA tournament. The Cadets will be making their 10th NCAA Tournament appearance in just 12 years as a varsity program. Norwich is the reigning NCAA Division III national champion and will be looking to claim its third title overall.
Williams (20-4-3) won the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament for the second time with a 3-2 victory over three-time defending champion Middlebury on Sunday. The Ephs will be making their third NCAA Tournament appearance after previous showings in 2014 and 2003.
Wednesday will mark the third time Norwich and Williams will meet in women's ice hockey. Norwich won the inaugural meeting 4-2 at Kreitzberg in 2009 and then the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in Williamstown in 2010.
Tickets will only be available on Wednesday at the gate at Lansing Chapman Rink. Prices are $6 for adults, $4 for students, $3 for senior citzens/youth and under 2 is free.
The other first round matchup features Plattsburgh State hosting Endicott with the winner of that matchup set to face the winner of Norwich/Williams in a quarterfinal at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, March 9.
Three quarterfinal matchups are already set with Elmira hosting Adrian, St. Thomas hosts UW-Eau Claire and Hamline hosts UW-River Falls.
