BOSTON—Senior midfielder Grace Fitzpatrick (Falmouth, Maine) of the Norwich University women's lacrosse team has been named this week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
It marks the first time this season that a member of the Norwich squad has garnered weekly honors.
Fitzpatrick had an impressive week for the Cadets, as she led the team in almost every statistical category, including goals, points, ground balls, draw controls, and caused turnovers. She scored 11 goals and dished out three assists for 14 points, while adding 16 ground balls, 12 draw controls, and 13 caused turnovers.
Fitzpatrick's best performance of the week came during Norwich's 11-10 overtime win against Lasell, the defending GNAC champions. In the Cadets' first game at home, she totaled a game-high eight points from five goals and three assists to lead Norwich to their then third-straight win.
On the season, Fitzpatrick ranks among the best players in the GNAC. She currently ranks first in the GNAC and seventh in Division III in caused turnovers per game (3.33). She also ranks second in the GNAC and 22nd in the nation in ground balls per game (4.67). Over Norwich's first six games, Fitzpatrick has totaled team-highs in goals (16), assists (four), points (21), ground balls (28), draw controls (19), and caused turnovers (20).
