NEWTON, Mass. - Freshman Emily Schromm (North Attleboro, Mass.) had a career game with seven goals on the night to lead the Norwich women's lacrosse team to a 14-11 victory over the Mount Ida Mustangs on Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Schromm got the Cadets on the board first with a free position goal a mere three minutes into the game. Mount Ida quickly answered back, and the two teams swapped goals for most of the first half. A pair of late goals by Olivia Bloom (Annapolis, Md.) and Schromm sent the Cadets into the halftime break with a narrow 7-5 advantage.
The two teams continued to trade goals in the second half before the Cadets rattled off three straight goals with under four minutes to play, giving themselves all the breathing room they needed to seal up the 14-11 victory.
Emily Schromm put together the best game of her young career with seven goals, five ground balls, and six draw controls to lead the team in all three categories. Olivia Bloom notched yet another hat trick, and senior Meaghan McGrath (Barre, Vt.) collected two goals and an assist of her own. Janice Bolton (Stow, Mass.) put together a solid night in goal, making 14 saves on 25 shots to pick up the win.
With the win, Norwich improves to 6-5 on the year and 4-3 within the GNAC. Next up for the Cadets is a matchup with Lasell College on Thursday, April 19th, at home at 4:00 PM.
