NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Head Coach Heather Faasse announced on Wednesday afternoon that senior Ariana Lacombe and junior Lawson Hayes will serve as co-captains for the 12th season of Norwich women's lacrosse in 2019.
Ariana Lacombe (Groton, Mass.) has been a mainstay on the Cadets defensive unit for three seasons, making 40 starts and 42 appearances so far in her career and serving as the assistant captain for last year's team. She's collected 48 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers in those games, as well as scoring three goals and recording an assist for four career points.
Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) returns for her third season in goal for the Cadets, already having logged well over a thousand minutes (1,219) for Norwich in just two seasons and serving as team captain last year. She holds a 7-12 all-time record with 153 saves and a 12.84 goals against average. Hayes enters the year already in the top-ten in program history in career saves, saves per game, save percentage, and goals against average.
"I am looking forward to watching the pair grow in the leadership role," Coach Faasse commented. "Both Lawson and Ariana possess qualities that will better our program, our alumni relationships, and our recruiting efforts this season."
Lacombe, Hayes, and the rest of the Cadets will get their season started across the lake on February 27th when they travel to take on the Plattsburgh State Cardinals. They'll return to Northfield for their next contest and home opener on March 2nd against Fitchburg State, a game set to begin at 1:00 PM.
