CASTLETON, Vt. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team fell to in-state rival Castleton University on Sunday afternoon, as the Spartans defended their home field with a 15-8 victory over the Cadets.
Emily Schromm (North Attleboro, Mass.) got the Cadets on the board first with a goal 4:06 into the game, her 16th goal of the season. The two teams traded goals throughout the period, before Brynn Mendes (Centerville, Mass.) converted a free-position shot with barely a minute remaining to send the Cadets into the halftime break with a 5-4 advantage. Castleton came out on fire in the second half, however, opening the action with seven unanswered goals to give themselves all the room they needed to coast to the 15-8 victory.
Mendes, Schromm, and Kate Winstanley (Lansdale, Pa.) all scored twice for Norwich, with Missy Preul (Scottsdale, Ariz) and Abby Roberts (Passumpsic, Vt.) picking up a goal each to round out the Norwich score sheet.
Norwich falls to 3-4 with the loss, as they've now lost four straight after beginning the year 3-0. They'll try to stop the slide on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to the University of Saint Joseph for a 4:00 PM conference showdown.
