Women's Lacrosse: Cadets explode for 20 goals, defeat USJ, 20-3

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team netted 20 goals against the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph, defeating their conference foe by a 20-3 final score on Wednesday afternoon. 

Jordan Lutz (Hamburg, N.J.) got the party started for Norwich with an unassisted goal just fifty-five seconds into the action, sparking a 5-0 Norwich run to start play. The Blue Jays got one on the board at 20:29 off of a Taya Valdez free-position shot, but the Cadets responded in turn with a 6-0 run to close the half and take an 11-1 lead into the break. Norwich controlled the second half by a 9-2 margin to run away with the 20-3 victory. 

Freshman Brynn Mendes ended up with a game-high five points off of two goals and a trio of assists. Missy Preul (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Kate Winstanley (Lansdale, Pa.) led all scorers with four goals each, while Jordan Lutz (2g, 2a) and Brittney Poljacik (Woodstock, Vt.) (3g, 1a) each put together four-point days. Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) made four saves in goal to improve to 4-4 on the season, as Norwich outshot the Blue Jays by a 26-7 margin. 

The Cadets improve to 4-4 overall and 3-3 within the conference with the win. They'll be back in action on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM against the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine for the first annual One Love Game hosted by Norwich Lacrosse.
