NEWTON, Mass. - Conference rival Lasell College dispatched the Cadets of Norwich women's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon, scoring nine second-half goals to run away with the 15-6 victory over the maroon and gold.
Things started off in the Cadets' favor, with Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) and Emily Schromm (North Attleboro, Mass.) both netting goals to give Norwich a slim 2-0 lead. The Lasers clamped down from that point, holding Norwich off the scoreboard for the remaining 20 minutes of the first half while scoring six goals of their own to carry a 6-2 lead into the break. The Cadets hung with Lasell for a moment in the second half, but a 6-1 run over the final nine minutes of game time was all the Lasers needed to seal up the 15-6 victory.
Emily Schromm finished with a goal and two assists, while Furchak, Mary-Kait Mace (Canton, N.Y.), Brittney Poljacik (Woodstock, Vt.), and Ariana Lacombe (Groton, Mass.) rounded out the scoresheet for Norwich. Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) made 11 saves in net, nearly a season-high, but took the loss to fall to 5-6.
Norwich will return to action on April 10th, when they host the Saints of Emmanuel College for another conference tilt at 7:00 PM.
