NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team fell in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday night, as the Emmanuel College Saints defeated the Cadets by a 15-5 final score on Sabine Field.
Emmanuel came out and established control with four straight goals to start the action, as Emily Schromm (North Attleboro, Massachusetts) managed to stymie the Saints momentum for just a moment with her 22nd goal of the season. The Saints couldn't be stopped, however, as they outscored Norwich 6-1 the rest of the way to take a 10-2 lead into the halftime break. Norwich put together a more cohesive attack in the final stanza, but it wasn't enough to close the gap and Emmanuel walked away with the 15-5 victory
Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) tallied a pair of goals to lead the Norwich offense, while Schromm, Brynn Mendes (Centerville, Mass.), and Brittney Poljacik (Woodstock, Vt.) rounded out the score sheet. Kate Winstanley (Lansdale, Pa.) made nine saves in her debut in goal for the Cadets.
The Cadets fall to 5-7 with the loss and 3-6 within the GNAC. They'll next be in action on Monday afternoon when they host New England College for a 4:00 non-conference tilt.
