Women's Lacrosse: Big second half propels NEC past Norwich, 24-11

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team fell victim to a huge second-half effort by the Pilgrims of New England College, as NEC outscored Norwich 17-3 in the final stanza to take the 24-11 victory.

Norwich struck first with an Emily Schromm (North Attleboro, Mass.) goal, and a tight first half took off from there. Three straight unanswered goals from Norwich gave them just enough of a cushion to head into the halftime break up 8-7.

The second half saw Norwich's short bench plague them almost immediately, as the Pilgrims simply outlasted Norwich. Eleven straight Pilgrims' goals started the second half, and four straight ended it, as NEC cruised to the 24-11 victory.

Abby Roberts (Passumpsic, Vt.) and Emily Schromm each had four goals to lead the Cadets, while Michaila FurchakBrittney Poljacik, and Jordan Lutz rounded out the scoring for Norwich with a goal each. Kate Winstanley (Lansdale, Pa.) made seven saves in goal, but gets saddled with the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season.

Next up for the Cadets is a Wednesday road trip to Albertus Magnus for a 4:30 PM conference tilt.
