Women's Lacrosse: Brynn Mendes earns All-Conference honors

WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman Brynn Mendes of the Norwich University women's lacrosse team earned Third Team All-Conference honors for her outstanding play during her first season at Norwich, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced on Monday.

Mendes started all 17 of Norwich's games this year, filling the stat sheet in almost every single one. She finished her freshman season with 24 goals and 11 assists for 35 points, along with 39 ground balls, 24 caused turnovers, and 65 draw controls. In her first career game and start, she scored a hat trick to go with an assist for a four-point day, along with four draw controls in an example of what was to come for her season.

She recorded a season-high five points twice this year, first at St. Joseph on March 27th with two goals and three assists followed by four goals and an assist against NVU-Lyndon on April 22nd. In that NVU-Lyndon game, she broke the program single-game draw controls record with 15 after tieing the record earlier in the year with 10. Her 65 draw controls on the season is the third highest single-season mark in program history, behind Grace Fitzpatrick's 76 in 2013 and 66 in 2012 and just ahead of teammate Emily Schromm's 61 from last season. With 65 draw controls for her career, she's already seventh all-time in career totals.

Norwich women's lacrosse posted a 7-10 overall record and 4-7 mark within the GNAC before bowing out in the first round of the playoffs to eventual conference champion Johnson & Wales. Entering Head Coach Heather Faasse's third year with the program and only losing two seniors to graduation, the young Cadets' seem poised to make more strides forward as a program in 2020.
