Women's Rugby: Cadets open season with road victory
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The women's rugby team launched into the 2011 regular season with a massive victory over the Bryant Bulldogs.  A beautiful fall day in Rhode Island played host to a wonderful turn-out of Norwich parents and alumni alike.
Opening scoring for the fired up Cadets was senior captain Katie Hathaway.  Hathaway went on to a career performance, rushing in 5 total tries on the day.  "I think those work-outs are paying off," said Hathaway on her greatest scoring performance to date.
Joining Hathaway with two tries on the day was senior All-American Hannah Bushey.  2010 league leading try scoring sophomores Joya Clark and Rose Bernheim also added a pair of tries each to the Cadets' tally.
Juniors Adria Pickin, Corinne McElroy, and Andrea Vogt each added one try apiece, and freshman Catherine Valentine scored her first try for the Maroon & Gold on the final play of the game.
Junior Emily Baugus, sophomore Jackie Derocher and Clark each added conversions.
"Bryant College is an excellent host," said NU head coach Austin Hall.  "They are a well organized team and a great group of student-athletes to play against.  I think we accomplished what we set out to do, and we will look to continue to grow our system this week.  It was great to see our younger players keep our performance level high in the second half.  Many thanks to our amazing parents and alumni in attendance."
