SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Norwich University women's rugby team dropped a 64-25 matchup to American International College on Saturday evening in National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) action.
Despite scoring first in the opening two minutes of the game, AIC scored four straight tries to take a commanding lead vs. the Cadets and never looked back.
Aldersea scored 1:58 into the first half to take a 5-0 lead. However, AIC ran off four straight tries to take a 26-5 lead. Norwich closed the gap at the end of the first half with Aldersea's second try of the game and Runion touching down in the 37th minute to cut the deficit to 26-15 heading to halftime.
Parent scored the first try of the second half to cut AIC's lead to 26-20.
AIC scored seven straight tries to pull away in the second half. Heale scored a try on the last play of the game to close out the scoring for Norwich.
Norwich (3-2, 2-2 NIRA T1) returns home to the NU Dog River Rugby Pitch to host Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. The match will be video streamed live on www.nsnsports.net/colleges/norwich
