HENNIKER, N.H. - The Norwich University women's rugby team picked up a 28-0 forfeit victory over New England College on Saturday after the Pilgrims were unable to field a full squad of 15 players.
The two teams played three 10 vs. 10 exhibition matches of 20 minutes each in lieu of the normal 15 vs. 15 full-length match.
In the first game, Norwich (1-1, 1-1 NIRA Division III) won 41-7 behind three tries from senior captain AnnaLeigh Runion (Greenville, S.C.). Angelica Greene (Pompano Beach, Fla.) added two more tries, while Reagan Aldersea (Schertz, Texas) and Molly Higgins (Thetford Center, Vt.) each scored one try.
In the second match, the Cadets won 34-0 with junior Emma Parizo (Grand Isle, Vt.) scoring three tries and classmate Brooke Stafford (Gibbsboro, N.J.) adding two more. Junior Lily Marsazalkowski (Foxborough, Mass.) rounded out the try scoring in the second match with one as well. Stafford was 2-for-3 on conversions, while Kleppler was 0-for-3.
In the third and final match, the NU freshmen team tied the Pilgrims 5-5. Freshman Emily Ngo (Turlock, Calif.) scored the lone try for the Cadets.
Norwich will host Univ. of New England on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. as part of NU Bicetennial and Homecoming Weekend.
