Women's Rugby: Norwich sweeps NEC in 10s best of three series again

Brooke Stafford women's rugby action vs. AIC

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's rugby team swept a 10s best of three series for the second straight time against New England College on Saturday afternoon at the NU Dog River Pitch.

Brooke Stafford led the Cadets with four tries, while Reagan Aldersea and Emma Parizo each added three tries to lead the Cadets' offense.

Norwich won the first match 27-5, the second match 42-0 and then rallied for a 22-12 win in the third match after trailing 12-0 at halftime.

The two teams played three 20-minute 10 vs. 10 matches as opposed to the traditional 15s due to NEC not having enough players. Norwich officially was awarded a 28-0 forfeit victory.

Stafford scored two tries in the first game and went 1-for-5 on conversions. Aldersea, Morgan Butcher and AnnaLeigh Runion each added tries in the first match as well.

Parizo scored three tries in the middle match, while Stafford also touched down for two more. Molly Higgins, Louisa Johnson-Gray and Runion each scored tries as well.

After falling behind 12-0 in the third match, Aldersea scored twice, Runion and Emily Ngo each scored once as well to round out the try scorers.

Norwich (4-2, 3-2 NIRA D3) will travel to UNE for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 20. The Cadets return home to the NU Dog River Rugby Pitch to host Colby-Sawyer on Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. in its regular season finale.
