BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Norwich University women's rugby team's bid for its first National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) Division III championship came to a close on Saturday afternoon with a tough 12-7 loss to Bowdoin College in the semifinal round.
Freshman Emily Ngo (Turlock, Calif.) scored Norwich's lone try on the day in the first half to tie the game back up at 7-7 following a successful conversion from Emma Parizo (Grand Isle, Vt.). Bowdoin scored early in the first half to take a 7-0 lead before Ngo worked the Cadets back into the game.
The two teams went into halftime tied at 7-7, but Bowdoin ultimately scored what would prove to be the game-winning try just past the midway point of the second half to seal the victory and a berth in next week's NIRA Division III Championship game, hosted by Harvard University.
Norwich went 6-3 in its first season playing against all Division III schools. The Cadets earned the No. 3 seed for the playoffs and two of their three losses came at the hands of Bowdoin. The Polar Bears handed Norwich a 27-17 loss earlier in the season.
