Women’s Soccer: Rocheville leads Norwich to 3-1 win, best start in program history

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore midfielder Sydney Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) scored twice in the second half to lead the Norwich University women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon in each team's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener. 

Norwich (4-0-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) stayed undefeated on the season, winning its fourth straight and is now off to its best start in the program's nearly 40-year history. With the win, the Cadets also surpassed their win total of three from each of the last four years. 

Freshman Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) continued her remarkable start to Maroon & Gold career, scoring for the fourth straight game to take over the team scoring lead. 

Sophomore Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) made collected 11 saves to improve to 4-0 on the season and help backstop the Cadets to their first victory over Albertus Magnus since 2011. 

Lachance opened the scoring at the 35:59 mark of the first half to give Norwich a 1-0 lead briefly. Albertus Magnus (1-3-0, 0-1-0 GNAC) answered back exactly a minute with Haley Andrews scoring to level the score. 

Rocheville took over from there with goals in the 59th minute and 65th minute to take the 3-1 victory and open the league season with a victory. 

Norwich will look to continue its record-breaking start on Monday when it travels to Rivier for a 7 p.m. kickoff vs. the Raiders. The Cadets will then host Anna Maria on Friday as part of NU Homecoming Weekend.
