NASHUA, N.H. - HIGH FIVE! The Norwich University women's soccer team made it five straight wins to start the season with a 2-0 victory over Rivier University on Monday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Freshman forward Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) scored her fifth goal in as many games to start the season, while senior midfielder Danielle Johnson (Groton, Mass.) scored in her first game played of the season to lift the Cadets' offense to the victory and extend their program-record best start to a season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) made two saves to pick up her first shutout of the season.
Johnson scored the game-winning goal at the 30:33 mark of the first half on an unassisted tally to give the Cadets the lead for good.
Lachance scored just six minutes later with her team-leading fifth goal of the season and extended her program-record fifth straight game with a goal to start a season. Sophomore Sydney Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) recorded her team-leading fifth assist of the season on the goal as well.
Norwich outshot Rivier 11-5 as it continued its miraculous turnaround under first-year head coach Heather Faasse. The Cadets are one win away from tying the number of wins it had in the previous two seasons combined.
The Cadets currently sit atop the GNAC standings with a 2-0 record and six points. They will host Anna Maria on Friday at 3 p.m.
