Women's Soccer: Norwich falls 1-0 to NVU-Lyndon

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - The Norwich University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Northern Vermont University at Lyndon on Monday afternoon in non-conference action.

NVU Lyndon (5-7-1, 1-3-1 NAC) scored with less than two minutes left in the game with Jessica Hillman chasing down a long through ball from EmmaLee Smith for a breakaway goal in the low right side of the net.

Despite Norwich (6-7-1, 3-6-1 GNAC) holding a 38-4 edge in the shots, the Cadets were unable to solve NVU Lyndon goalkeeper Victoria McCormack, who stopped all 13 shots she faced to earn the shutout.

Sophomore midfielder Sydney Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) led Norwich with 15 shots and seven on goal. 

In goal, sophomore Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) made her first start since Sept. 28, playing the first half and going untested. Freshman Lindsey Gordon (Wiscasset, Maine) made a save in the second half, but was saddled with the loss.

Norwich had six corner kicks to NVU-Lyndon's zero.

Norwich returns home to Sabine Field at Hayes Family Stadium for its final three games of the season. The Cadets host first-place Lasell on Wednesday at 6 p.m. NU then hosts Suffolk on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. for its annual Senior Day. Norwich closes out the 2018 regular season on Thursday, Oct. 25 when it hosts Green Mountain College at 6 p.m.
