NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Suffolk University on Saturday in its final Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match of the season.
The Cadets (6-9-1, 3-8-1 GNAC) celebrated their four seniors prior to the game in a special pre-game ceremony.
Suffolk (3-10-1, 3-8-1 GNAC) took a 1-0 in the eighth minute with Julia Hunt scoring on a partial breakaway off an assist from Caleigh O'Brien. Hunt was in on goal with a defender a half step behind while NU goalkeeper Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) came out to challenge.
Watt got a piece of Hunt's shot but it bounced behind her and into the back of the wide open net for her fourth goal of the year.
O'Brien scored her team-leading ninth goal in the 31st minute with Addisyn Lanza picking up the assist. O'Brien beat Watt off a crossing pass from Lanza from the left.
Watt made 11 saves for the Cadets in goal, marking her sixth straight start with double-digit saves.
Suffolk outshot Norwich 21-6 for the game and had seven corner kicks to the Cadets' zero.
Norwich will close out the 2018 season on Thursday at 6 p.m. when the Cadets host Green Mountain College in a non-league game on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
