NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team ended the 2018 season on a positive note with a 2-1 win over Green Mountain College on a frigid Thursday evening at Sabine Field.
Freshman forward Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) became the first player since 2012 to reach double-digit goals in a single season with her team-leading 10th goal of the season to give the Cadets a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Lachance blistered a shot into the top right corner of the net off her left foot from 25 yards out on the left wing to leave the Green Mountain goalkeeper no chance to get back to.
Sophomore midfielder Sydney Rocheville (Salem, Mass.) scored in the 53rd minute off a corner kick service from Kaila Lemmer (Barnard, Vt.) to take a brief 2-0 lead. The goal was Rocheville's fourth of the season and Lemmer's fourth assist of the year as well.
Norwich (7-9-1, 3-8-1 GNAC) broke a 10-game winless streak with the victory and posted its best record in a season since 2011 when the Cadets went 11-5-3.
Green Mountain (6-6-0) drew to within one goal in the 74th minute when Riley Lane scored on a perfect shot into the top left corner of the net off an assist from Maya Golowasch. Golowasch distributed the ball to her right to find Lane wide open and then Lane fired a shot that left NU freshman goalkeeper Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) no chance to get back to.
Norwich outshot Green Mountain 22-12 in the game. Watt picked up her first collegiate victory in goal making seven saves in the win to end the season at 1-5-1.
