HENNIKER, N.H. - Sophomore forward Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) scored the game's first goal, but it wasn't enough as Roger Williams scored five unanswered goals to take a 5-1 victory on Saturday in the New England College Classic finale.
Lachance scored her first goal of the season and the 11th of her career in the 12th minute unassisted to give the Cadets a 1-0 lead that they would cling to until late in the first half.
However, Roger Williams (1-3) responded with two goals 55 seconds apart in the final two minutes of the first half to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The Hawks scored three more times in the second half to cruise to the 5-1 victory.
Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made three saves in goal before being pulled for junior Madison Day (Hiram, Maine) in the second half. Day made four saves in her first career action in the Maroon & Gold.
Norwich will look for its first win of 2019 when it travels to Univ. of St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday, Sept. 14 for a noon kickoff in its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener.
