PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore forward Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, while sophomore goalie Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made a career-high 17 saves for the Norwich University women's soccer team in a 6-1 defeat at Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Lachance scored in the 67th minute, but JWU (5-5, 3-0 GNAC) had already sprinted out to a 4-0 lead as it was too little too late for the Cadets, who lost their seventh straight to Johnson & Wales.
Watt did everything she could to keep Norwich in the game in the first half, making seven saves to keep the Cadets within reach. However, JWU scored two more goals to start the second half before Lachance got Norwich on the board to break up the shutout. Lachance beat Shannon Stockero with a low shot to the corner of the net for the 16th goal of her young Cadet career.
Watt added 10 more saves in the second half to surpass her previous career-high of 15 saves in a 1-0 overtime loss to Castleton earlier this season.
JWU outshot Norwich 38-5. The Wildcats' offense was led by two goals from Olivia Cairrao and then a goal and two assists from Jordan Restivo.
Norwich will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 2 when it travels to Suffolk University for a 7 p.m. GNAC matchup with the Rams.
The Cadets will then host Albertus Magnus on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. in a GNAC showdown on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
