NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's soccer team had its Senior Day spoiled by UMaine Fort Kent in a 3-1 loss to the Bengals on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
Senior midfielder Madison Oelker (West Liberty, Ohio) scored her second goal of the season in the final minute off the first career assist from Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.), but it wasn't enough to overcome the Bengals in the regular season finale.
UMaine Fort Kent (9-4) scored twice in the second half to pull away after the Bengals established a 1-0 lead in the first half. Yuliana Sanchez scored both second half goals for UMaine Fort Kent, while Jordan Maxwell scored in the first half to lead the Bengals' offense in the victory.
Oelker scored on a beautiful cross with 32 seconds from the left side from Lachance and then Oelker made a nice play to immediately drive it into the left corner of the net with no hesitation.
UMaine Fort Kent outshot Norwich 14-10 in the game. Sophomore goalie Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made seven saves to fall to 6-10-1 on the season. Lexy Mitchell picked up the win in goal for the Bengals after making three saves.
Norwich (6-11-1, 5-6-1 GNAC) will await its GNAC playoff fate on Wednesday and have to scoreboard watch the rest of the results to found out if it will make its first playoff appearance since 2011.
