NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Norwich University volleyball team went 1-3 at the UMass-Dartmouth Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Norwich lost to Regis (3-0), Framingham State (3-0) and UMass-Dartmouth (3-1) before rallying to win its final match of the tournament 3-1 over Eastern Nazarene.
Norwich dropped the first set 26-24 and then 25-16 and 25-14 to fall in the tournament opener to Regis. Junior Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) led the Cadets with five kills, while Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) had four kills. Freshman Katherine Crane (Avon, N.Y.) finished with 16 assists for the Cadets.
Regis was led by 10 kills from Sam Bliss and Haley Schulte notched 24 assists.
Framingham State Match
Framingham State won the first set 25-9 before Norwich battled the Rams tooth and nail in the second set, falling 25-23. Framingham State picked up the sweep in the third set with a 25-10 win.
Alycia Rackliffe had 13 kills to lead Framingham State.
Mancini led Norwich with five kills, while Lyons had four and senior Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) tallied four kills as well. Crane notched 15 assists and two service aces. Alex Reudiger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) had 29 digs and Alma Turpin (Sterling, Va.) had 24 to lead Norwich defensively.
Senior captain Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) led the Cadets with 12 kills and 12 digs. Crane notched 25 assists, while Baita and Reudiger had 21 and 23 digs respectively.
UMass-Dartmouth took the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-14, before Norwich rallied to win the third set 25-22.
Eastern Nazarene Match
Norwich beat Eastern Nazarene 3-1 to close out the tournament. No stats were available at the time of writing this release.
The Cadets (2-4 overall) return to action on Sept. 10 when they travel to Green Mountain College to take on the Eagles at 6 p.m.
