Volleyball: Norwich downs Southern Vermont 3-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team broke a three-match winless streak with a 3-0 sweep over Southern Vermont College on Wednesday night at Andrews Hall Gym.

Norwich won in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 26-24.

Senior outside hitter Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) had nine kills, while junior Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) and senior Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) had seven and six kills respectively to lead the Cadets' attack.

Palmer had an impressive .571 attacking percentage to lead the Norwich offense. She also tallied 11 digs, just one short of the team leader Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.), who has 12 digs in the match.

Norwich also combined for 16 service aces in the match with Alma Turpin (Sterling, Va.), Mancini and junior Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) each tallying three.

Senior Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) led Norwich with 16 assists, while freshman Katherine Crane (Avon, N.Y.) added 13 more. Baita also led the team with five service aces.

Southern Vermont was led by senior Jessica Delgado's 10 kills and 13 digs.

Norwich (4-7, 0-0) opens up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this weekend when it travels to Lasell for a league tri-match with the Lasers and the Univ. of St. Joseph (Conn.).
