Volleyball: Cadets Turned Away By Johnson & Wales (R.I.)

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team was handed a 3-0 defeat by Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Saturday at Andrews Hall. The Wildcats remain without a loss on the season in 10 matches while the Cadets dip to 1-7 on the year, losing its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference match of the year. 

The Wildcats posted the straight-set victory via scores of 25-11, 25-10 and 25-12. Johnson & Wales was led by 14 kills from Maria Coniglio, who committed only three attacking errors on 27 swings – her team posted 40 kills on 89 attacks, hitting an efficient .337 on the afternoon. 

Norwich was led by three kills from senior Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.). Junior Katie Crane (Avon, N.Y.) and sophomore Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) handed out four assists apiece while four different Cadets players registered six digs on defense. 

The Cadets started the match slowly, committing seven miscues in the first set alone. The Wildcats, however, countered with 14 kills on 30 swings to post a team-high .400 attacking percentage in the first stanza alone. 

Norwich also committed seven attacking errors in the second set before hitting in positive figures (5-4-30, .033) in the third set, but the early damage had been done. 

The Cadets hit the road this Friday, Sept. 23 as it takes on Albertus Magnus in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
