NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team capped off its home slate of matches Saturday afternoon, falling to Lasell College and Suffolk University by 3-0 scores. The Cadets fall to 5-14 overall and to 1-8 within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
Lasell (10-16, 4-4 GNAC) dispatched the host Cadets in straight sets (25-20, 25-14, 25-19) before Suffolk (10-13, 3-5 GNAC) cruised to a 3-0 victory via scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-19. The Lasers snuck past Suffolk in the middle match of the afternoon, dropping the first set by a 25-19 margin before capturing the next three, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-15.
Freshman Courtney Nau (Sunrise, Fla.) hammered six kills in the Lasell match, leading the team. Sophomore Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) posted 21 assists while freshman Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) registered 16 digs – senior Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) also reached double-digit dig totals, posting 10.
In the Suffolk match, freshman Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) led her squad with eight kills. Oliver racked up double-digit assist totals once again, handing out 14 assists on her team's 20 kills, while Zummo contributed 10 digs of her own. Dawson was the matches' overall digs leader, posting 15 across three sets.
Norwich will hit the road for three matches to end its season – the next contest for the Cadets is on Wednesday, Oct. 26 against Castleton State College at 7 p.m.
