NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University volleyball team suffered a loss at the hands of the Keene State Owls on Wednesday night in non-conference action, falling in three sets.
Things started off well for Norwich against a strong Keene State squad, as they jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first set. The Owls battled back though, and the two teams traded the lead throughout the set. The Cadets held a 24-21 lead late, but Keene State rallied for five straight points to take the set by a 26-24 final score.
The second set went all Keene State, as they dispatched the Cadets by a 25-14 score to take the 2-0 lead. Norwich put together a better effort in the third set, even holding a 20-13 lead late in the action. However, the Owls were able to stage another comeback and squeak out the 25-23 victory and subsequent 3-0 match win.
Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) led the way for Norwich with 13 kills on the day, while Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) collected 28 assists. As a team, the Cadets totaled six service aces and seven blocks while hitting a .103 percentage. They were hurt by 14 team service errors and 20 attack errors across the three sets.
The loss drops Norwich down to a 2-4 record on the season. They'll get back in action during Homecoming Weekend in a few days when they host the Johnson & Wales Wildcats for a GNAC battle on Friday at 5:00 PM.
