NASHUA, N.H. - The Norwich University volleyball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match to the Raiders of Rivier University on Wednesday night, falling by a 3-0 final score.
The Cadets never seemed to get their attack going, as Rivier jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set before rattling off nine straight points to close out the first set by a 25-13 score. The final two sets were no better for Norwich, as the Raiders dispatched NU by scores of 25-18 and 25-15 to close up the 3-0 match win. This was the 14th consecutive win for Rivier over Norwich, and they extended their streak of set wins to 29.
Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) led the Cadets with eight kills on the day, while Olivia Brown (Rye, N.H.) paced the team with 14 digs. Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) 14 assists and 11 digs. The Cadets were outpaced by Rivier in killing percentage -.080 versus .299 as the Raiders picked up 36 kills as a team.
The loss drops Norwich down to 2-6 on the year, with a 0-4 mark within the GNAC. Next up for the maroon and gold is a trip down to New England College for a tri-match against the hosting Pilgrims and the Mariners of Mitchell College.
