WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshman setter Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week recognition on Monday afternoon.
Farnum is the just the second Norwich freshman to earn the honor since the program joined the GNAC in the 2006 season and follows in the footsteps of Molly Rice (2008), Ivana Batur (2011) and Alex Palmer (2011) as the other Cadets to earn GNAC weekly awards.
Farnum's honor comes after she posted 10.11 assists per set this week, including a career-high 41 assists in a 3-0 victory over Mount Holyoke. She also had 24 helpers in a 3-0 sweep of Salem State and registered 26 in a setback to Plymouth State.
The freshman setter currently ranks fifth in the GNAC with 7.41 assists per set.
After posting a 2-1 record this week, Norwich's overall mark stands at 6-3. The Cadets return home to Andrews Hall on Saturday, September 21 when it opens conference play against St. Joseph (Conn.) at 12 p.m. The game will take part during Homecoming Weekend at which Norwich will celebrate its Bicentennial.
