Volleyball: Repeat Offender, Farnum Claims 2nd GNAC Rookie of the Week Honor

GNAC WEEK 7 REPORT

WINTHROP, Mass. – The Norwich University women's volleyball freshman setter Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week recognition on Monday afternoon.

Farnum, who repeats as Rookie of the Week after receiving the honor in week 3, is the just the second Norwich freshman to earn the honor since the program joined the GNAC in the 2006 season and follows in the footsteps of Molly Rice (2008), Ivana Batur (2011) and Alex Palmer (2011) as the other Cadets to earn GNAC weekly awards.

Farnum's recognition comes on the heels of a 2-1 week for the Cadets. She continues to direct the offense like a veteran posting 8.73 assists per set and 1.38 digs per set on the defensive side which included nine in a tough loss to Simmons. Her setting acumen helped generate a .225 team hitting percentage on the week, nearly 35 percentage points higher than its average on the year. The freshman setter currently ranks fifth in the GNAC with 7.95 assists per set.

After posting a 2-1 record this week, Norwich's overall mark stands at 11-7. The Cadets remain home at Andrews Hall on Wednesday, October 23 when they host New England College at 6 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
