Volleyball: Cadets Top Vikings 3-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University volleyball team hosted Salem State University in a non-conference match Wednesday night at Andrews Hall.

The Cadets swept the Vikings 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-20) to improve to 5-2 on the season, Salem State falls to 0-3.

Senior outside hitter Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) led Norwich with 11 kills on the night while junior right side Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) posted nine kills and 16 digs. Senior libero Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) led the way with 17 digs while freshman Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) paced the Cadets with 24 assists on the evening.

In the first set, Norwich jumped out to a 6-3 lead before Salem State rallied for five straight points to take an 8-6 lead. The Cadets then went on a scoring run, eventually taking a 17-10 lead that they would not relinquish. The second set played out very similarly with Norwich holding a large leads of 19-7 and 20-8. The third set was the closest of the evening, with the Cadets breaking open an 18-18 tie with six straight points en route to the victory.

Norwich is next in action on Saturday, September 14th for a tri-match at Plymouth State. The Cadets play Mount Holyoke at 2:00 p.m. and the host Panthers at 4:00 p.m.
