LYNDON, Vt. – The Norwich University men's and women's cross country teams traveled to the Vermont College State Championship Meet, hosted by NVU-Lyndon on Saturday.
The Cadets placed third in both women's and men's team competitions with the women scoring 80 points and the men scoring 91.
In women's action senior Carisa DeKalb (San Diego, Calif.) led all NU runners with a fourth-place finish in 22:41.7 on the 5k course. Junior Robyn Hageman (Westlake, Ohio) finished behind DeKalb in 15th place in 24:54.0 and sophomore Olivia Giarrizzo (Tampa, Fla.) finished 16th in 25:04.7. Freshman Belle Magna (Canton, Conn.) capped Norwich runners in the top 25 with a 23rd place finish in 25:42.2.
On the men's side the Cadets were led by sophomore William Rapsas (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.), who finished 12th in 31:29.9 on the 8k course. Fellow sophomore Christian DeBoer (Hopedale, Mass.) placed 17th in 32:16.2 with freshmen Dominic Girard (Manchester, N.H.) (22nd place, 32:59.1) and Nate Stucky (Fort Bragg, N.C.) ( 23rd, 33:00.2) rounding out Cadets in the top 25. Norwich sat their top six runners for today's race.
Norwich is next in action on Saturday, October 6th for the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State. The women's race is set for 11:15 a.m. with the men's contest slated for 12:45 p.m.
