RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. – The Norwich University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Vermont Tech Maple Syrup Challenge on Saturday.
Both the Cadet men's and women's teams claimed second place as the NU men collected 50 team points and the NU women finished with 53.
In men's action, senior Adam Saucier (Massena, N.Y.) led the squad with an eighth-place finish in 29:12 on the 8k course. Junior Trenton Shimata (Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed 12th with a time of 29:55 with sophomore Zachary Bergeron (Blackstone, Mass.) finishing right behind in 13th in 30:08.
Sophomore Nate Stucky (Fort Bragg, N.C.) (15th place, 30:33), freshman Ethan Moores (16th, 30:56), senior Kevon Pascoe (Richlands, N.C.) (18th, 31:42) junior William Rapsas (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) (19th, 31:55) and junior Christian DeBoer (Frederick, Md.) (20th, 31:57) capped Cadet runners in the top 20.
On the women's side, freshman Remi Parker led the team for the second straight week with a fifth-place finish in 21:16 on the 5k course.
Norwich claimed spot 20 through 26 as well as freshman Kayley Jefferson (20th place, 23:44), sophomore Belle Magna (Canton, Conn.) (21st, 23:47), freshman Jacie Harlow (22nd, 24:12), junior Paige Roche (Cohasset, Mass.) (24th, 24:36), freshman Grace Reitzig (25th, 25:03) and freshman Jess Pereira (26th, 25:04) all finished under a blanket.
The Cadets are next in action on Saturday, September 21st for the Aldrich Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College. Both races are slated for 10:00 a.m.
